Solar Eclipse: How Big Firms Can Blind Us

solar eclipse

It is not news to you that there will be a solar eclipse next week. It’s all over the news, all stores are selling the lenses to protect your eyes for viewing, and schools are even taking off for safety purposes.

This week we’re comparing the hazard of staring at the sun with no protection to the hazard of investing your life savings with no understanding.

For 35 years, Ed Butowsky has managed money. For 35 years, he has seen issues with how advisors not only help their clients understand risk, but how they measure and utilize it in the background while managing their portfolios.

Watch this week’s unique video to see this comparison to the solar eclipse.

A Thought on Why the Big Firms Won’t Get Specific when They Talk About Risk

For many years I’ve talked about the risk that is inherently misunderstood with clients and their portfolios. I came from Morgan Stanley, which I will still say to this day is a good firm with some smart people, but the advisors miss the mark with risk management and understanding how to craft an investment portfolio.

I’m using the solar eclipse this week as an excuse to talk about how important it is to take the proper measures (like you will next week with the glasses) when investing your money.

The solar eclipse will be here and gone in about 3 minutes or some smaller number, but your consequence from your portfolio risk will hurt you in the future.

While there’s many ways financial advisors market to the crowds these days, I insist on continually talking about risk because I believe it’s the number 1 concern for all investors regardless of size.

In this video, I talked about variance drag phantom tax (which I’ll link to below) and some other scores we measure here at Chapwood Investments. These are crucial to understand and to measure in your own investments.

I help investors by doing a thorough analysis for no charge to show them what they’re holding. If you would like to take me up on this, please email my associate Jordan at jordan@chapwoodinvestments.com today.
